Stefanie Yuen-Thio
One of the founders of TSMP Law Corporation, Stefanie Yuen Thio heads its transactional practice, which include mergers & acquisitions, regulatory, advisory, capital markets, corporate/commercial transactions and investments. She is acknowledged as a leading professional by important legal journals such as the IFLR1000 and Chambers in her fields of expertise.
In practice for more than 20 years, Stefanie was appointed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore to the Corporate Governance Council to review the Code of Corporate Governance in 2017 and was a member of the Singapore Governance and Transparency Index (SGTI) Advisory Panel between 2016 and 2018. The outspoken commentator has also been quoted by the press on regulatory matters; recent ones include the Darco take-private, Wirecard fraud and quarterly reporting. Her commentaries, such as those on regulations of alternative asset classes and SGX’s new delisting rules, often appear in Singapore’s leading broadsheet The Business Times. She is a regular guest on BBC Radio’s Business Matters, where she shares the Singapore lens on global current affairs.
A strong believer that the law firms need to embrace the industry’s digital disruption or face irrelevance – a sea change made even more pressing during Covid-19 – Stefanie pushes for cloud-based solutions to automate back-end processes at the firm, while retaining a high-touch approach to managing clients. The law firm of the future is one that provides bespoke solutions to clients with complex needs, she argues, while those that churn out standard contracts will be replaced by AI.
TSMP Law Corporation focuses on high-end transactional and dispute work, and was named Boutique Law Firm of the Year 2016, Transactional Boutique Law Firm of the Year 2017 and Dispute Resolution Law Firm of the Year 2018 and 2019 in the ALB SE Asia Law Awards.
